The horror of the CrowdStrike outage gives you an opportunity to increase prices for some clients. Here's the exact email you can send them
Let's say you have a client who first signed a contract with you back in 2022. They're a good client, not too noisy, and most of the time they follow your suggestions.
A routine everyday client.
You've been intending to put up their prices for a while. They're on a rolling contract so it's something you keep pushing into the future.
Luckily, the hell of the CrowdStrike outage last week has given you an opportunity.
Put this email into your own words and send it to them.
Subject: CrowdStrike: I'm upgrading your security + support plan
Hi NAME,
It's dropped out of the mainstream news now, but the CrowdStrike outage last week was a massive deal for businesses. Did you hear that 8.5 million computers were taken down?
It didn't affect you as we don't use that specific product. But I've spent the last few days reviewing all our clients, asking myself "how can we better protect you from interruption?".
Nothing we do could have prevented the CrowdStrike outage. But there are many potential interruptions we CAN protect you from, including cyber security attacks and unscheduled downtime.
That's why I'm emailing you today. You're still on the plan we offered back in 2022. Since then we have updated and improved our plans, adding in new security products and higher support options, including:
-
Benefit 1
-
Benefit 2
-
Benefit 3
The most robust support I can give your business is to upgrade you to our 2024 plan. I'm proposing we do that starting from DATE.
There is a price implication, as our 2024 plan has a higher cost to us from the extra products and services we buy in. Your price per person will increase to $xx a month from the same date.
Important: This is an optional upgrade. Our 2022 plan is a good level of security and support. The 2024 plan is the best level and that's why I'm recommending it.
If you'd rather not upgrade at this time, that's fine. Just hit reply and let me know. If I don't hear from you, I'll call in the next few days to check you got this message.

Some notes on this email
1) Don't get annoyed with me if you think this is profiteering or an aggressive way to increase prices! It's just an idea. If it doesn't sit well with you, ignore it.
2) Don't just blanket send it out to all your clients. Apply it to those who are overdue a price increase.
3) Don't overthink it. I know you don't really have 2022 and 2024 "plans". It's just a simple positioning tool. Your stack is always improving, right? This is a great way to get clients up-to-date on your current stack. The reason it's opt out rather than opt in is because more people will upgrade that way. If you're calling them to check, it'll be fine.
4) Don't make the benefits bullet points too long, or technical in any way. Here are some examples:
-
Constantly monitoring the dark web for your personal information
-
Smart automated tools that are looking for any suspicious activity in your Microsoft 365 account
-
Software that automatically detects all devices connected to your network, and produces an annual return for you
5) If you do need new benefits to add to your stack, I can highly recommend two services, both started by MSPs I have personally worked with. Tell the teams at MSP Easy Tools and MSP Dark Web that I sent you.
